Gulmarg

Gulmarg Sight Seeing

The Gulmarg Gondola, the world’s second-highest cable car, is an unmissable highlight of Gulmarg. As the second highest and second longest cable car ride in the world, it’s a must-try experience when visiting Gulmarg. The Gandola ride is divided into two phases. In Phase 1, the Gondola whisks passengers from Gulmarg Resort to Kongdoori Station (the middle point), starting at an altitude of 2,990 meters and ascending 400 vertical meters. It shuttles nearly 1,500 passengers per hour, reaching 3,100 meters, offering access to easy skiing runs.

Phase 2 connects Kongdoori Mountain to Apharwat Peak, climbing a further 1,330 vertical meters to nearly 4,000 meters and ferries 600 passengers per hour. From the mountaintop, a 30-minute trek unveils the Line of Control (LOC) in the distance. The Gondola also treats you to magnificent views of Nanda Devi and the Pir Panjal Range, while offering activities like horseback riding and skiing.The first phase of the ride takes around 9 minutes, while the second phase takes about 12 minutes. Get panoramic views of the beautiful snow-capped mountains, valleys and forests. Riding the Gulmarg Gondola isn’t just an activity; it’s an unforgettable addition to your travel wishlist. 

  • The timings for the ride is from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • The fee for phase-1 is Rs. 700 and for phase-2 is Rs. 900.
  • Chair car rides are available for phase-2 at an additional cost of Rs. 300.
  • Note that children under 3 years aren’t allowed for any phase.
  • Gondola services can get interrupted during winters when the weather gets bad.
  • Each car is allowed to carry 6 people, 3 in each row.
  • The Gondola is about 900m away from Gulmarg, you’ll need to walk towards the boarding point.
  • Beware of horse owners, guides and other agents offering tickets and drop to the boarding point; it’s an easy walk and the tickets can be booked online.
  • There are restaurants in Kongdoori (phase 1) but none in Apharwat (phase 2). 
  • There are toilets and eateries. Food items are usually sold 50% more than the MRP. 
  • There are activities available at Phase 1, including ATV rides and sledding. One can opt for a short sled ride or go back to Gulmarg starting point instead of taking a Gondola back.
